What is a photography client consultation? (5 FAQs)

BEERLINE CAFE
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN

This past weekend I had another wonderful client consultation over breakfast. I love supporting other local businesses and finding new favorite restaurants. We met at Beerline Cafe in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (No, I didn't have beer with breakfast by the way...) But if you are wondering... yes, there is beer there (it is Wisconsin after all.)

The best part about a client consultation--is not the food or potentially signing the photography contract. To me, it is the opportunity to really get to know one another! Mandi (the bride I met with this weekend) shared a ton of inspiration for her wedding, including how she imagined the day from start to finish. We talked about her Harry Potter obsession, the beautiful rustic location for her Wisconsin wedding, and some past wedding experiences! It is fun to share ways in which we can personalize the experience (so it isn't just a cookie cutter package that every wedding photo collection ends up looking exactly the same).

Truly, a client consultation is an opportunity to talk about the logistics, favorite inspiration sites and the whole wedding planning process. Some brides only want to meet once before the wedding or prefer to schedule a call, whatever is most comfortable for you, is what I follow suit.

FAQ's about client consultations/booking a photographer:

  1. Should I bring any inspiration with me or can I show you my Pinterest board?
Yes and yes! I love to see the different things that inspire a client so I can better frame how the day will go and make sure to mentally note certain style elements or patterns.

  2. Does the photography consultation cost money?
The client consultation is free; it is an opportunity to go over wedding photography packages in depth and answer any questions in real time.

  3. I like the packages I saw and your work but what about a second photographer?
All second shooters for any wedding photography packages start at an additional day rate (as well as they must be booked 10+ months in advance).

  4. How do you give the photos to us?
All photos will be on Google Drive in a Wedding Photography folder as well as images and rights to the images on a USB.

  5. Do I have to bring a deposit to sign a contract? Is the contract mandatory to have a consultation?
Deposits are collected at the time arranged by you. There are a variety of payment plans for you to select from to choose how to pay for your wedding photography. Full payment is due no later than two weeks prior to your wedding.
